Jason Matthews fell in love with the art of visual storytelling at an early age. Awestruck by the magic of animation, he dreamed of one day becoming a part of this extraordinary medium. As a child, Jason had an innate talent for drawing and found comfort and catharsis in the limitless horizons of his sketchbooks. He began teaching himself the art of animation at age 13.
Fueled by passion, Jason introduced the joys of animation to his academic communities. In 2017 he created an animation branch within the Cabrillo College Film Club, and he co-founded the Monterey Bay Animation Group (MBAG). Jason graduated with honors from Cabrillo College in 2021, with degrees in Studio Art, Engineering Technology, and Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts.
In 2022, Jason enrolled at Animation Mentor, where he received formal training in character animation from animation veterans. He became a certified CG Animator in December 2023.
It was less than a year before he broke into the industry. Since graduating, Jason has worked on two animated short films, two television series, and the 2025 PC game “Spiritrender.” In 2023 he attended his first CTN Expo, where he was awarded the title Exhibiting Artist (Honorable Mention), and in 2025 his work was recognized in VFX Engine’s Emerging Talent Showcase. He is currently part of a small but mighty team bringing trucks and construction heroes to life for season 3 of the “Mighty Man” series.
When he’s not animating characters to life, Jason enjoys freezing time with breathtaking wildlife photography in the quaint beach town of Aptos, California.
